Why We Walk

Dad

MICHAEL ALBERT

Home City: Fairfield, CT

Crash Anniversary: July 28, 1986

Mike Albert and his close friend Russ Gordon were tragically taken from their families and friends when a drunk driver struck them in a head on collision on the evening of July 28th, 1986. There was no remorse shown by the driver and he received a minimal sentence of less than a year in a half-way house with weekend furloughs.

Mike had so much to offer and much more living to do. He was beloved by so many for his unique sense of humor and wit, his genuine kindness, his deep appreciation for music, sports and nature, as well as his passion for so many important causes from animal rights to world peace.

Mike's parents Marty and Barbara were so thankful to Janice Heggie and the MADD team for all the support they received after the accident. With time they gained strength by becoming victim advocates and Marty served on MADD's Fairfield chapter board of directors for many years. He was also committed to telling the story of his tragic loss to students and first time offenders on a regular basis until he lost his battle to cancer in 2003.

Mike's sister Pam Bingman then decided to continue in her dad's footsteps and support MADD in her own way. In 2010 she began by forming the "Missing Mike" team at the Walk Like MADD in West Hartford, then joined the planning committee for the Southington Walk for 2 years and most recently has been a committee member for the Walk in Cheshire.

The "Missing Mike" team's mission is to keep both Mike and Russ' memories alive by raising awareness about the dangers of this completely preventable crime; to keep our roads safe and help prevent these types of tragedies from happening to other innocent people. Since their family's loss, their motto has been "if we can save just one life, then we have made a difference."

Please help us continue to make a difference and save more lives by joining us at the walk in Cheshire on March 28th, 2015 in memory of our precious brother, son, friend, cousin and uncle - Mike Albert, who will be missed forever.
