Crash Anniversary: January 11, 2013
Dewitt Peake was more than just a daddy. He was a poppa, oldest and only brother to four sisters, only son of a widowed mother, uncle, deacon, volunteer first responder and firefighter, coach, and friend to so many. His family’s lives were forever changed on the morning of January 11, 2013. Like normal, Dewitt was up and out the door heading to work at 4 am. Around 4:30 am, his wife heard his pager go off alerting the fire department and EMS of a 10-50 (wreck) vehicle vs. motorcycle. At that moment, she knew it was Dewitt. The driver of the car had turned in front of Daddy, leaving him with no option but to lay his motorcycle down. What people may not know about Daddy is that he ALWAYS thought of others, and nothing changed that morning. He risked his own life to protect the life of another. Unfortunately, he took his last breath on impact.
