Why We Walk

Scott McDermott

Home City: Tucson, AZ

Crash Anniversary: September 24, 2005

It was a Saturday evening that Scott McDermott and his wife, Donna, left to go to the grocery store and pick up a movie together. On their way home, they were hit by an underage drunk driver who blew a stop sign at 91 miles per hour. Scott was killed instantly on impact and Donna was left on life support. Although Donna has since made a miraculous recovery, their family is left with permanent heartache from the loss of Scott. His smile, bright blue eyes, intelligence and humbling personality made everyone around him love him. He loved being outdoors, always taking Donna and their two children hiking, camping and fishing. While at home, he would throw around the ball with his kids, race them up and down the street or play basketball on the court he made for his son. Aside from fun, he instilled many values that will hold forever within his family and the generations to come. Scott had a passion for collecting rare rocks and minerals, as well as tending to his beloved plants. Scott also loved cooking for his family and friends and made the best beef jerky known to man.

We walk in memory of Scott McDermott, to raise awareness to this senseless and preventable act, hoping that even one person will hear his story, remember it and not get behind the wheel after drinking.
