Crash Anniversary: October 17, 2013
Shortly before midnight on October 17, 2013, Manatee County resident Bernadine F. Smith was a passenger in a vehicle traveling in downtown Tampa, FL that was struck by an impaired driver who ran a red light. Bernadine was critically injured and passed away soon afterward at Tampa General Hospital. Bernadine’s son Hurley, a member of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and his wife were also in the vehicle and were injured, but made full recoveries.
