ROBERTo CASTILLO

Home City: Miami, FL

Crash Anniversary: October 23, 2005

Roberto Castillo was known throughout South Florida as a top running competitor. He held age group records for speed and participated in races all over the country. He was a runner, but he took up cycling to cross train and was a winner in local bike races as well. Roberto was known as, “the toughest competitor on the track, but the nicest, most genuine guy off the track.” But he was first and foremost a family man. He loved his wife, Diana, his son Rob and daughter, Diana with the same intensity as he put into his racing challenges.

On October 23, 2005 while Roberto was training on his bike, he was hit and killed by a drunk driver. The South Florida running and cycling community was devastated and the Castillo family was heartbroken. It was said, “He was truly a legend and one of the greatest inspirations to any aging distance runner and one of the most humble runners one could ever know.

All these years later the Castillo family chooses to honor their husband and father by participating in Walk Like MADD/MADD Dash. Rob attends with his wife, Veronica and their two son, grandchildren who would have delighted Roberto. Last year Diana was proposed to as she crossed the finish line! Many close friends of the family also join in the event to honor their mentor, Roberto. Son Rob said, “ I still feel like he is with me on all my runs its amazing. I know you will be with me every step of the way.”

Join us for Walk Like MADD/MADD Dash to raise awareness and to support families like the Castillos. Let’s walk to create a future of No More Victims!
