 Why We Walk

In Memory of Dave King

Dave King was my father. He loved my mother, my sister and I more than anything in this world and we loved him. My father and my mother grew up down the shore together. The two families of five spent many years hanging out with one another. Eventually the two fell in love and my mom became, as my dad referred to her, "my wife". He was famous for that catch phrase as well as "don't worry about it" and "I buy you fly".

He loved his dogs, hunting, motorcycles and helping out at the local American Legion Post 178 where he was the commander of the Sons of the American Legion. He was a Pile Driver for the Local 454 for 31 years. He went through a bought of bladder and prostate cancer but was cancer free after both organs were removed. In 2016, welcomed his first grandchild who he loved so much. Sadly his time with her was cut short after only 7 months.

On New Years Eve 2016 Dave was hit on his motorcycle by a drunk driver. He was rushed to Cooper Hospital where they began trying to fix his long list of injuries. After 7 days in the Trauma ICU we sadly had to say goodbye to him. It was heartbreaking and tragic for our family to lose him. He now lives on in our hearts and in many many stories about his life. My family is so grateful for the life saving measures the doctors and nurses went through to try and save his life and for supporting us through it all. We are so lucky to have him watching over us.

We invite you to join our family at the Philadelphia Walk Like MADD as we honor and remember my father and all those who have been impacted by impaired driving.
