Why We Walk
Sean & CarolineIn the late evening of August 13th 2016, my girlfriend Caroline Sine and I were out at the movies celebrating a successful first week of the school year, both of us being teachers. As we were leaving the parking lot of the movie theater, we were hit by a drunk driver. Two days after the crash, Caroline was taken off of life support. The injuries to her head were just too severe. I would be in the hospital for almost a month with fractures to my back and ribs, severe bruising to my internal organs, and a collapsed lung. The hardest part for me is to try and carry on without her. She is missed deeply by not only her family and friends, but also the many students whose lives she touched forever. Our families are forever grateful to MADD for speaking for us when we were unable to speak for ourselves. Support Sean's Team Start your own team!

Martin J. Hernandez, P.A.As a personal injury attorney in Tampa for more than 20 years, I have seen far more than my share of the significant impact impaired driving can have on individuals and families. The devastation and loss of life is breathtaking and heartbreaking. That’s why I walk—I walk to bring attention to those who can’t speak themselves and those who might never live life as they knew it before their accident as a result of someone’s selfish carelessness. MADD Tampa, by spreading the message of not driving while impaired, is standing shoulder to shoulder with those affected and hopefully opening the eyes of those who might think it’s okay to get behind the wheel when it’s clearly not, and I applaud and wholeheartedly support their efforts.
