Why We Walk

WHY WE WALK

Crash Anniversary: March 31, 2019

On March 31, 2019 my life was changed forever!

I was hit as a pedestrian by a drunk driver while loading the back of my vehicle. I experienced something I never thought I would see before it was my time to go. Moments after the crash I found myself in heaven, it was bright and beautiful. Then before I knew it I was picking up my phone calling 911! I was given my Last Rites, but I wasn't ready to go. I was told I would never be able to walk again, but I wasn't ready for that. I went through 8 surgeries in 10 days, and had my 9th surgery a couple months later. A lot of physical therapy and a lot of hard work and determination followed! I was in UPMC Mercy for 2-3 weeks where my heroes helped save my life between orthopedics, vascular, and all the wonderful nurses and aides. Then I went to Rebecca Residence Nursing home for a month and a half for rehabilitation to get me strong enough to then be home with my family.

I was very thankful my parents took me and my husband in during my recovery, and my brother was my full time caregiver. I truly was blessed, after my parents and husband would come home from work they’d continue to take care of my every need. I continued with in home therapy and then transitioned to outpatient therapy.

I am a warr;or and my story isn't over yet. I will fight till the end!

I want to thank all my family and friends for all their love and support, and especially my husband Jon because without him I don't know where I would be today!
